SAT
I Verbal Preparation Part 1 (Vocabulary / Critical Reading)
This course is designed to prepare students to take SAT I
Verbal test, a comprehensive multiple choice and writing exam. Areas of verbal
acuity included in the SAT I Verbal are sentence completion and critical
reading. Part 1 of the course will provide expert instruction in vocabulary
development, sentence completion, and critical reading. It is the opinion of the
MCA Director, Mrs. Cheri Sabraw, that this part of the SAT I Verbal (Part 1) is
the more difficult of the two parts. The instructors will lecture on these
topics using material developed by Mill Creek and discuss test-taking
strategies. Students will memorize SAT vocabulary with the use of mnemonic
devices and practice the above named skills. Students will take 5 practice tests
and learn MCA strategies for achieving the type of score needed for admission
into the university level.
SAT I Verbal Preparation Part 2 (Grammar /
Writing)
This course is
designed to prepare students to take the new SAT I Verbal test, a comprehensive
multiple choice and writing exam. Areas of verbal acuity included in the SAT I
Verbal are sentence completion, critical reading, Standard English grammar, and
a 25 minute essay. Part 2 of the course will provide expert instruction in
Standard English grammar and the writing of a 25-minute essay. Included in the
grammar review will be subject/verb agreement, pronoun case and reference,
pronoun/antecedent agreement, diction, parallelism, modification, coordination,
subordination, illogical comparisons, verb forms and tense, punctuation and
double negatives. The instructor will lecture in grammar and writing
instruction. The students will write at least 15-20 essays, which will be scored
by the teacher. We have successfully guided students to very high scores. Many
of our students have scored perfect 800’s and we expect that the SAT I Verbal
scores will be enhanced by the addition of grammar/writing to the total SAT I
score. The essay critique and scoring by our Part 2 instructors is superior,
detailed, and accurate.
SAT II Biology

prepare students in the areas of cellular and molecular biology, ecology,
genetics, organismal biology, and evolution. Students will take a diagnostic
test upon entering the class, review all components of the test, study major
topics in biology, and then take 5 practice tests.
