We asked Spring 2008 students to evaluate their experience. Here are some of their comments about Mill Creek classes and teachers. Mr. Di Paola "In this class, I was able to learn many math skills from Mr. Di Paola that will help me take the SAT. Whenever I had questions, he would explain how to get to the solution." -Samantha "I liked my teacher and his method of teaching. It increased my understanding of math. The most important things I’ve gained are tactics and experience." -Nishita "During this session, I learned many different strategies on how to make the math portion of the SAT easier. Mr. Di Paola made me think of problems in a different way that is easy to understand." -Mark "This class definitely helped me get through the test. I think, without this class, I wouldn’t even have gotten through the test. Helped me apply things in the test and we went over ways to succeed with a passing grade." -Sonam "I think that a good trait that Mr. DiPaola has is he is friendly and approachable. He does not scorn people for making mistakes, as some teachers do. I feel that reviewing probability was helpful since it has always been my weak point." -Stacey Mrs. Wong "I learned many different techniques and many interesting stories. I liked how Mrs. Wong has stories and riddles in each class." -Quinn "The class taught me how to analyze things and I liked the stories and poems we read." -Catherine "Mrs. Wong is very supportive and descriptive in her teachings. It is a joy to be in her class for the second time. I learned many things about language styles." -Eamon "I learned a lot from this session. How to carefully analyze poems in detail really helps me in the STAR and SAT testing later on." -James "Mrs. Wong is one of the teachers supposedly to be honored. She transforms an everyday class into an exciting yet educational study. One of the greatest teachers known, she should keep on teaching and motivate writing. I have learned how to transform skimpy pages into analyzing notes, boring words into fun vocabulary devices, and invisible themes and characteristics into a lovely essay. Taking Mrs. Wong’s class is like taking a trip to Hawaii!" -Angela Mrs. Khandavalli "I liked having a small class size because the teacher helps each individual more." -Denise "I thought this class was very open and fun. The teacher taught us a lot and I think my writing style has improved a lot!" -Kimberly Ms. Hsu "Ms. Hsu was a really great teacher. She was funny and enjoyable while teaching us many things. Her funny examples of our vocabulary words made the definitions stick in our brains." -Haarika "Ms. Hsu is very funny! She gives very cool examples for verbs and adjectives. The whole class was screaming to hear her examples. I want to be with her again!" -Sherene "Ms. Hsu is really funny and can understand how a kid thinks. She makes education fun. The newest and most important thing I learned is how to write persuasively. I have not really learned about this in the past and Ms. Hsu gave me a huge boost! Ms. Hsu is probably the best teacher I will have at Mill Creek." -Natalie Ms. Somusetty "I learned how to be a better writer and how to write good essays in a shorter time." -Hamilton "I liked the way the teacher corrected my essays. I thought the most important thing about the class was the way our vocabulary words were presented to us." -Rishi Mrs. Johnson "I liked how she made the class fun and a learning experience at the same time. Her methods in memorizing vocabulary words have helped me both in this class and in my English class at school. Also, I felt I have learned how to approach the reading comprehension questions effectively." -Divya "Mrs. Johnson is a fun, energetic, and funny teacher. She would often tell us hilarious and unusual ways to remember a vocabulary word. I’ve learned 400 vocabulary words and many critical reading strategies. The STAR test next week will be a breeze compared to this!" -Ashley "I liked the friendly environment and the way the teacher teaches the class in a very interactive environment. I thought it was very important to learn how to go through the test in a time-friendly way. The process of elimination strategies and tips were very helpful." -Mitchell "My Teacher was really funny. The diction, tone, and facial expressions that my teacher used in class endeared her to us students. She told funny jokes and connected lesson plans to a wide variety of topics. I really liked the class discussions we had." -Niveditha "Mrs. Johnson had a humorous and effective way of teaching the content (ex. vocabulary mnemonic devices). The most important thing I learned was how to deal with the double passage critical reading questions." -Roger Mr. Kawamura "Mr. Kawamura is a very good teacher. He’s very knowledgeable about physics and is a very patient and nice guy. The most important thing I learned was the right logical mindset you need when doing physics." -Namita "Mr. Kawamura always stayed after class (at least 15 minutes) for extra help. He also brought in extra practice problems that were very helpful." -Katherine Ms. Marie "Learning about parenthetical documentation was very important to me because I have to use that a lot in class. My teacher was great and very helpful." -Kevin "I think Ms. Marie is a wonderful teacher. She always has a positive, happy attitude that makes the writing class fun." -Sophia "The class was unlike my English class at school. Ms. Marie answered questions that would normally never have been answered at school. I learned about MLA Publishing and about different essay structures." -John Mrs. Sabraw "Through my SAT I writing class, I was able to organize my thoughts within each paragraph and within the whole essay. I learned a lot in this class." -Dipti "The course not only improved my SAT writing score, but it improved my essay writing skills as well! Thank you Mill Creek Academy!" -Chelsea "This class was amazing! I learned so many things I had never learned in any high school English class. Both my writing and my grammar greatly improved." -Jane "Mrs. Sabraw was a great teacher and I wish I could have had her as my regular school teacher as well. She really helped me improve my essays and she made class interesting all the time. I really got a lot out of this class and I would recommend this to anyone willing to improve their SAT writing score." -Tiffany Mr. Bazaj "I loved the energy and excitement he put into biology for me. His analogies were right on target and helped me understand the concepts. The most important thing I learned was that biology is just like the lives we live." -Brent "Naveen was a cool teacher, and he explained things clearly and taught us material we didn’t understand in class. He had humorous ways of remembering material which stuck with me, and my grade improved significantly." -Emily "Naveen Bazaj helped me understand the basic concepts presented to us at school. He clearly explained and answered all of the questions in creative ways." -Sonia Mr.
Richey "Mr. Richey has been one of the best English teachers I’ve had. He’s sarcastic, merciless, and tells the corniest jokes ever. I’ve learned about the good structures of essays and how to apply it to real essays. Best of all, he refuses to let us off without getting what he wants." -Chang "Mr. Richey was an interesting teacher. I’ve never met a teacher so “pushy” and yet so respected. He really knows how to pressure the class. He can crack a few good jokes though, that’s something for sure. He taught me many things. He taught me to be humble, mostly. I respect that and appreciate it. And my writing improves ever so much! Thanks!" -Nathan "Learned that participation is one of the best ways to learn and I learned that it is about the why and not the what. Learning from Mr. Richey was an unforgettable experience." -Gina Mrs. Kovach "The book was a great story and the teacher is very, VERY patient with the class. I learned to improve in my essays and discovered my mistakes no one told me about." -Katie "I thought that the class was very helpful and Mrs. Kovach was very nice and helpful also. The most important things I learned about here were the vocabulary words." -Sana "I learned about themes and the teacher was very nice." -Jeffrey Mrs. Sabraw/ Mr. Richey "Both of my teachers have many fabulous qualities that I love, but the best thing I loved about them was when they actually cared about my getting an education. Most teachers usually just teach and hope to get paid." -Thomas "This class isn’t just about learning, but going beyond the paper, book, and pencil." -Elmo "This is the most effective class I have ever taken, and the teachers are marvelous." -Tian Tian "The teachers are truthful, and Literary Analysis was the first class in which I enjoyed myself the entire time." -Akul Mrs. Richey "Mrs. Richey is an excellent, kind, and humorous teacher, who always has a surprise for us by making learning fun. In this session, the most important thing I’ve learned is the 7 types of reading comprehension (main idea, supporting detail, sequences, vocab, cause and effect, inference, and prediction.)" -Anjali "What I liked about Mrs. Richey for this session was the happy attitude she had towards learning. It’s easier to learn when a teacher isn’t putting pressure on you. I learned how to tell questions apart in multiple choices (whether they are main idea questions, or sequence questions, etc.) I also learned writing skills." -Aaroshi "I really liked Mrs. Richey’s passion for grammar and teaching because it made the class more interesting. I definitely learned loads of grammar rules and fixed certain mistakes we make in everyday conversation. This will make the mistakes easier to catch on the SAT in the sentence improvement section. I learned many tips as well." -Tanya "I think that Mrs. Richey is a great teacher. She is nice, understanding, and teaches very well. She’s a funny person and fun person to learn from. I enjoyed being in her class. The most important thing I have learned from her this session has been grammar. I never had a strong foundation with grammar, but Mrs. Richey has taught me a lot, and she teaches things in a way that sticks to you for a long time. I really enjoyed learning from her!" -Melody "I learned how to write. At the beginning of the class, I could barely finish an essay in 20 minutes, now, I routinely have 2 minutes left over. I learned that one becomes a writer by writing a lot. Thanks to the 25 essays, I finally became comfortable with writing." -Bowei Mrs. Dillemuth "SHE IS AMAZING! I learned more here than at school. Makes me happy." -Gina "Mrs. Dillemuth has been really helpful and successful in math. I improved my grade drastically ever since I have been in this class. This has raised my confidence and has made me happy to do and learn Math." -Katelyn "It has ben a very fun and educational class. She explains the concepts clearly, and also gives more information than just the info in the textbook." -Monica Mrs. Marek "I absolutely loved this writing session. The most important thing I learned from this session was how to write an essay. My teacher was the best I have ever had." -Andre "I liked how Mrs. Marek was very fun yet taught well and helped us learn. I think that the most important thing I have learned this session was the different sentence patterns." -Arthur "What I like about my teacher is that she taught me a lot of new things like how to write persuasive essays. The most important thing I learned is that I learned a lot of new words." -Daniel "She teaches with kindness. Even though she is expecting a baby, she still teaches us. I think she is a perfect teacher." -Alvin "Mrs. Marek brings humor in her sentences she says. She is also nice and helps and encourages us to write better. Mrs. Marek taught us how to write better.
