Mr. Tyler Block
Tyler Block earned his Bachelor’s degree, with a
double major in English and Italian, from the University of California,
Davis in June 2007. He is the nephew of Mill Creek Academy Director Cheri
Block Sabraw and has wanted to work in the family business for several
years. He currently lives in Davis, California and commutes to Fremont to
teach his classes at Mill Creek.
Mr. Block is a certified English as a Second Language
(ESL) instructor and recently returned from Santiago, Chile, where he taught ESL
to teenagers and adults in the largest private institute in Chile (Instituto
Chileno Norteamericano). He is also fluent in Italian and is a student of
Spanish.
His love for language and literature began at the
university level where he had the opportunity to study a wide range of literary
disciplines, from Plato and Aristotle to Chaucer, Shakespeare, and Wordsworth.
His extensive experiences traveling throughout Europe and living in Italy have
given him a great appreciation of language and communication. Mr. Block’s
passion for teaching is fueled by his recognition of the fundamental importance
of both the written and spoken word in everyday life. He believes that writing
improvement not only elevates students’ level of professional development and
chances of getting into a great university, but it also makes them better
people.
In his free time Mr. Block loves to stay physically
active and enjoys playing basketball and hiking. This past summer he completed
a two-week hike around Lake Tahoe on the 165 mile Tahoe Rim Trail. Mr. Block
feels honored to have the opportunity to work at the Mill Creek Academy. |
