Ms. Sonya John

As a senior at Mission San Jose High School, Sonya
John believes that hard work and a passion for learning are the building
blocks for success. True to this philosophy, she enjoys immersing herself in
her demanding school work and in her various activities, including: serving
as Mission’s Peer Counseling president, writing for her school’s newspaper,
the Smoke Signal as the Feature section editor, and fighting for the cure as
the president of the American Cancer Society at school. Most importantly,
she loves tutoring kids of all ages. Her experience includes: tutoring a
freshman in Honors Biology, serving as a tutor at Gomes Elementary AOK club,
and mentoring a fifth grader in a variety of subjects. Along with these
experiences, she brings boundless energy, patience, and a ready smile.
In her free time she enjoys spending time with family
and friends, volunteering at Washington Hospital, and organizing and
coordinating events for her church youth group. As an aspiring oncologist, she
is ecstatic to learn from her shadowing sessions with doctors at Stanford
University Hospital. Sonya takes great pleasure in giving back to the
community and she is delighted to be tutoring at Mill Creek Academy!
